Cited Applications: WB
Cross Reactivity: Western blot SMC1 from human and mouse cells
SMC1 from other species may also be detectable
Host: Rabbit
Immunogen: Synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 955-959 of human SMC1 (Q14683)
Formulation: PBS pH 7.4, 0.02% sodium azide, 50% glycerol
Purification: Affinity chromatography
Stability: Store at 4
oC (add 0.1% NaN

For optimal storage, aliquot target into smaller quantities after centrifugation and store at recommended temperature. For most favorable performance, avoid repeated handling and multiple freeze/thaw cycles.
Scientific Background: SMC1 is a member of the structural maintenance of chromosomes 1A family that is localized at the kinetochores and is involved in cell division. SMC1is part of the cohesin multiprotein complex which is required for sister chromatid cohesion (1). Most of the cohesin complexes dissociate from the chromosomes before mitosis but remain at the kinetochore and so SMC1 is an important part of the functional kinetochores. SMC1 protein interacts with BRCA1 and is phosphorylated by ATM, indicating a potential role for this protein in DNA repair (2).
