Scientific Background: STK31 is a serine/threonine protein kinase that contains a tudor domain found in RNA-interacting proteins, and a coiled-coil domain. Tudor domains are found in many eukaryotic organisms and have been implicated in protein-protein interactions in which methylated protein substrates bind to these domains. The STK31 gene is conserved across many species and was originally identified as a gene expressed in mouse spermatogonia but not in somatic tissues (1). STK31 has been shown to be specifically expressed in the human testis.
