Formulation: Recombinant protein stored in 1 X PBS, 10% glycerol.
Storage, Stability, and Shipping: Stored at desiccated below -20
oC. It is stable at 4
oC between 2-7 days. For long term storage, aliquot target into smaller quantities after centrifugation and store at recommended temperature. For most favorable performance, avoid repeated handling and multiple freeze/thaw cycles.
Applications: Cell Assay
Endotoxin Level: Less than 0.1 ng/µg (IEU/µg) of IL-18
Molecular Weight: ~18 kDa
Gene Aliases: IGIF, IL-18, IL-1g, IL1F4, MGC12320
Scientific Background: IL18 or interleukin 18 (interferon-gamma-inducing factor) is a proinflammatory cytokine that augments natural killer cell activity in spleen cells, and stimulates interferon gamma production in T-helper type I cells (1). IL18 helps in regulates the acute GVHD by enhancing FAS-mediated apoptosis of donor T cells early after BMT in an IFNG-dependent manner. IL18 plays a major role in the pathogenesis of the autoimmune syndrome of lpr mice and that a reduction in IL18 activity could be a therapeutic strategy in autoimmune diseases (2). IL18 also play an important role in homeostasis of energy intake and insulin sensitivity.
