Overview:

METTL16 (Methyltransferase-like protein 16) is an RNA N6-methyltransferase that methylates adenosine residues at the N6 position of a subset of RNAs. METTL16 methylates the 3’ UTR of the SAM synthetase (MAT2A) mRNA and U6 snRNA (1,2), thereby regulating S-adenosylmethionine homeostasis as well as pre-mRNA splicing. These modifications on viral RNAs are believed to influence the expression of viral genes, the replication of virus and the generation of progeny virions (3).
