Overview:
PRMT2, protein arginine methyltransferase 2, arginine methyltransferase that methylates the guanidino nitrogens of arginyl residues in proteins such as STAT3, FBL, histone H4. PRMT2 acts as an ERα-binding protein and enhances both its AF-1 and AF-2 transcriptional activity. Inhibit NF-kappa-B transcription by blocking nuclear export of IkappaB-alpha through a leptomycin-sensitive pathway, increasing nuclear IkappaB-alpha and decreasing NF-kappaB DNA binding, which in turn renders cells susceptible to apoptosis.
Gene Aliases:
HMT1, HRMT1L
