Overview:

Leptin is a cytokine found in the adipose tissue of animals (Leptin mRNA is restricted to the adipose tissue). Leptin has been shown to suppress appetite, increase thermogenesis and reduce body weight, food consumption and plasma glucose levels.

Gene Aliases:

OB, Obese protein, Obesity factor

Genbank Number:

Storage, Stability and Shipping:

The lyophilized protein is stable for at least one year from date of receipt at -70oC. Upon reconstitution, this cytokine can be stored in working aliquots at 2o - 8oC for one month, or at -20oC for six months, with a carrier protein without detectable loss of activity. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Endotoxin Level:

<1.0 EU/μg of recombinant protein as determined by the LAL method

Molecular Weight:

16.4 kDa

Reconstitution Protocol:

Reconstitute at 1 mg/mL in sterile 20 mM Tris-HCI (pH 8.0).

Sample Cell Assay Data:

The ED (50) was determined by the dose-dependent proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells and was found to be <0.5ng/mL.

Purity:

Recombinant Human Leptin (LEP) resolved on a 15% SDS-PAGE gel under reducing conditions and stained with Coomassie Brilliant Blue G-250
