Overview:
TNF-beta is a member of the tumor necrosis factor cytokine family that are primarily expressed on lymphocytes that control lipid metabolism. TNF-beta is highly inducible, secreted, and forms heterotrimers with lymphotoxin-beta which anchor lymphotoxin-alpha to the cell surface. TNF-beta acts as a novel therapeutic route for the treatment of dyslipidemia (1). The presence of TNF-beta accelerates the initiation of immune responses and protects the host from larger viral challenges (2).
