Overview:

The PIK3R1 (Phosphoinositide-3-Kinase Regulatory Subunit 1) gene encodes the regulatory subunit p85α of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), a critical signaling enzyme involved in various cellular processes, including cell growth, survival, proliferation, and migration. The p85α regulatory subunit contains multiple domains, including the Src homology 3 (SH3) domain. The SH3 domain is a protein module of approximately 50-70 amino acids that is involved in protein-protein interactions, particularly with proline-rich motifs in target proteins. SH3 domains are crucial for mediating signaling pathways, cellular adhesion, and intracellular trafficking by promoting the assembly of signaling complexes. The SH3 domain within PIK3R1 is likely important for protein-protein interactions, enabling the association of PI3K with other signaling molecules and facilitating the transduction of cellular signaling cascades.
