Overview:
5'-AMP-activated protein kinase subunit gamma-3 (AMPKG3) is an AMP/ATP-binding subunit of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), an energy sensor protein kinase that plays a key role in regulating cellular energy metabolism. Ablation of the gamma3 subunit is associated with impaired glycogen resynthesis in skeletal muscle In contrast, naturally occurring mutations in the gamma3 subunit increase glycogen storage in skeletal muscle, which may enhance glycogen storage by shifting the metabolic fate of glucose from oxidation to storage.
