Overview:
Activins are dimeric growth and differentiation factors which belong to the TGF-beta superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins that signal through a heteromeric complex of receptor serine kinases which include at least two type I (I and IB) and two type II (II and IIB) receptors (1). ACVR2A is highly expressed in human brain and ovary and may be associated with susceptibility to preeclampsia (2). ACVR2A is a transmembrane protein, composed of a ligand-binding extracellular domain with cysteine-rich region, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic kinase domain with predicted serine/threonine specificity.
